Material:
– Main fabric: 88% cotton / 12% nylon twill — Carhartt’s standard FR blend. Cotton gives arc rating + comfort, nylon adds abrasion resistance. 9oz – 10.5oz weight usually.
– FR treatment: Treated cotton, not inherent FR. Meets NFPA 2112 for flash fire and NFPA 70E CAT 2 for arc flash, ∼8.6 – 12.9 cal/cm² ATPV rating depending on exact model.
– Reflective tape: FR-rated hi-vis 3M Scotch lite — yellow/silver 2″ strips. Won’t melt or drip.
– Hardware: Brass zippers, covered metal snaps — no exposed plastic that could melt.
– Thread: FR Nomex thread on all seams.
Features:
– Triple-stitched main seams: Extra durability for workwear
– Multiple cargo pockets: Large thigh cargo pockets with flaps + tool pockets
– Hi-vis striping: Double reflective bands around each lower leg — for low-light visibility
– Reinforced knees: Double-layer knees, often accepts knee pads
– Utility loop + hammer loop: Side loop for tools, typical Carhartt workwear detail
– Relaxed fit: Loose through seat and thigh — required for FR safety so fabric doesn’t contact skin
– Carhartt patch: Tan square logo on cargo pocket confirms brand
Stuff:
1. Not fireproof: Gives you seconds to escape flash fire. Fabric will char.
2. Care: No bleach, no fabric softener, no starch. Wash in mild detergent or FR protection fades.
This style is used by linemen, electricians, oil & gas, and roadside workers who need both FR and visibility.
